Recently completed, the Wilson School of Design is one of the newest and most technologically advanced design schools on the West Coast. The building was designed for the development of creative professionals in the areas of fashion, interiors, graphic and product design, as well as a applied research in studio and laboratory settings. The unique site context in the Fraser River delta posed complex environmental challenges including a high water table, infirm soils, and seismic conditions. As such, the resulting design responds with very light and rigid structure of oversized glue laminated beams, referencing ship construction. The design for the KPU Wilson School of Design also incorporates themes of accessibility, sustainability, openness and transparency.
The site tour of the KPU Wilson School of Design is a great opportunity to see a unique approach to structure and urban educational spaces.
