JANUARY EVENT | URBAN ARTS ARCHITECTURE – JENNIFER MARSHALL IN CONVERSATION

Join Women in Architecture (WIA) Vancouver on Tuesday, January 29th at 5:30pm at Inform Interiors for an evening in conversation with Jennifer Marshall of Urban Arts Architecture.
Jennifer Marshall graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Architecture) and from Columbia University in New York with a Master’s degree in Architecture. Beginning her career at Thompson Berwick & Pratt, she has been a registered architect and principal of her own firm for almost 30 years. An active member of the community, Jennifer is the past chair of the Vancouver Urban Design Panel, current Vice Chair of the Vancouver Planning Commission, Board Member of the Gastown Business Improvement Society, and the Centre for Art, Architecture and Design in West Vancouver.
Shelley Craig graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Architecture) and from the Architectural Association with a Master’s degree in Architecture. Recipient of the Bernard Webb Scholarship, she had a residency at the British School at Rome in 1985. Prior to forming Urban Arts Architecture, she was the principal of Urban Forum Architecture for 14 years. Shelley has been an adjunct professor at the UBC School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, and Emily Carr University. She is a member of the West Vancouver Design Panel, WoodWorks Steering Committee and Canadian Wood Council Board.

Together, Jennifer and Shelley formed Urban Arts Architecture in 2006, an award-winning architecture and urban design firm specializing in community-based projects including Advanced Education facilities, Cultural Centres, Multi-use Facilities, Libraries, Museums, and First Nations projects.
Recent Urban Arts projects include the award-winning Radium Hot Springs Community Hall and Library, Queensborough Community Centre expansion, a LEED gold project; the T’it’q’et Community Hall and Health Centre in Lillooet; the Summerland branch of the Okanagan Regional Library and UBC’s engineering student centre.
Urban Arts’ presentation will lead off an evening of conversation with a focus on the theme of inclusivity in design. A moderator will lead a discussion where the audience is encouraged to talk to Jennifer and Shelley about their studio’s work, respective professional paths, and other related questions as they relate to the theme.
